Updates

Buell 12 month review.

The rego and insurance bills have arrived, wow already 12 months since I purchased the XB12R.

So how do I feel about it now a year into ownership. Actually I am still pleased I came back to Buell and really have no complaints. Thats no mean feat as I have owned a few machines now and test ridden 3 times more and people say the parameters I set down are very wide.

To be fair I have changed the handle bars and the foot pegs on the Firebolt however that was a part of my plan before purchase. I don't see it as a fault of this (or other bikes) that they cater foremost to younger guys who want race track type ride position. When young I used to think that because Grand Prix bikes are a certain way that must then be the best for the street. I am sure many guys still have this idea firmly in their heads too same as more powerful must be better.

So what do I like best about this motorbike? Well first there is the belt drive. It never needs adjusting or oiling and it's clean and quiet with zero lash. Once you experience belt drive you really hate chains.

Next I like the colour impregnated body work which never shows chips because the colour is all the way through the panel. Thats great given no matter how hard I look after my bikes always going to have stones flicked from other cars and bikes on country roads.

Of course having an engine I can service at home for $30 is a joy, not just that with the money saved I can do more riding or buy a new set of tyres but I also avoid the whole hassle of dealer service having to either take a day off work or other wise be inconvenienced.

Most of all I like the way it feels on the road. So planted and composed on any surface yet the most nimble motorbike to turn. I have complete confidence when riding it.

The last Buell has now been built - glad I got mine when I did.

Last Buell was built this week.
